Film photography has been making a big comeback in the last few years (but did it ever really leave? Hmm...) and many photographers who started out in digital are incorporating more and more film into their work, myself included! So if you find yourself attracted to my style of photography, that may be because you also love the timeless look of film, even if you don’t realize it! And while I try to shoot film at every wedding I photograph, there are some times when that is much easier that others, and that’s for one main reason...
FILM LOVES LIGHT
Trust me when I say, I want to shoot as much of your wedding on film as possible. And the way that can happen best is by taking photos in natural light whenever we get the chance.
Portraits of the two of you? We’re going outside, no brainer. Photos of the wedding party? Same thing. Family formals? If you’ll let me, I’d love to take those outside. And if your ceremony and reception are going to be outside, oh man you KNOW I’m excited because I’ll be shooting film then too!
Knowing this, you might be able to plan a wedding that’s extremely “film friendly,” or atleast plan your day so that we can photograph as much film as possible. If you have questions about why I think it’s worth planning your day for more film photography, please feel free to ask me! I’m an open book!
