Our wedding day was perfect. Yes, of course some things didn’t go quite as planned, but when I look back on the day we got married, I really don’t think there’s much I would have changed. Our ceremony felt intimate, even with 160+ people there. We ate the best barbecue Cincinnati has to offer. There was even a firework display across the river that we got to watch. It was all pretty magical.
If I’m being honest though, there’s one part of our wedding day that really stings. One thing I would go back and change if I could. One regret I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
We didn’t eat any dang cake.
When we got engaged, I KNEW that I wanted my friend Hannah from The Bakeist to be the one to make our cake, and the cake was a huge deal for us! Griffin has a major nut allergy, and never eats any cake at weddings unless he can talk to the person who made it. So we wanted to go all out, and have THREE different cakes made for our wedding day, so we could make up for all the times Griffin couldn’t eat wedding cake.
When we cut the cake after the toasts and special dances, we each had one bite of cake. Then we got swept away in dancing and hanging out with our family and friends, but I wasn’t worried, because there was supposed to be a slice of each cake put in a to-go container and placed in our car for us, so we could eat it when we got back to our bed and breakfast. Unfortunately, things don’t always go as planned, and that to-go container never made its way into our car.
As far as things that could go wrong on a wedding day, I have to say this is probably pretty low on the list of severity. But please, listen to me when I tell you, you HAVE to make time to enjoy your dessert on your wedding day. You’ll be so glad you did.
